Vigo Employees Provide Welding Training for People with Disabilities
Community Initiatives
Constellium Vigo is working with a local community care center, the HC San Rafael de Vigo, which focuses on rehabilitating people with intellectual disabilities. By helping them practice the art of welding, our plant aims to facilitate their integration into the workplace and open up more employment possibilities.
In 2021, two people from the community center joined the plant for a two-month internship, one in the logistics warehouse of components and spare parts, the other on the welding production line. Plant Manager Maria Vilas Roman explains, "The opportunity to get closer to the work environment is essential, as it is often their first contact with a company and a job. It was an excellent opportunity for both sides. It gave them the satisfaction of feeling that they belong, a feeling of being valued and fulfilled. It also helps us develop our values of collaboration, empowerment, and trust with different people.”
As the project continues, every September the site will welcome an intern who can work towards a certificate of professionalism.
