Job Summary:

The Weld Process Engineer continually monitors the welding processes and verifies that all machines are functioning properly to produce quality, sound parts and required to have an advanced knowledge of welding parameters and principals to make adjustments and changes accordingly. Also, this position is the primary trainer for all weld related topics for the Automotive Structure North America (ASNA) facilities.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Holistically coordinate the development of weld processes on complex assemblies
  • Collaborate with weld technicians in all ASNA’s facilities
  • Determines the number of direct and indirect labor need for new equipment
  • Defines and ensure adherence to technical standards through product process and process development
  • Supports purchasing in the selection and evaluation of suppliers related to process technologies including but not limited to automated welding
  • Leads and or provide assistance to other personnel (mainly other engineers and maintenance technicians) in troubleshooting process related problems. This includes measure, analyze, improve and control manufacturing conditions requiring attention, such as quality rejects, dimensional nonconformance, process stability/capability issues, measurement issues, setup, raw materials, etc…
  • Conduct continuous improvement projects to improve pro-actively the O.E.E. of any manufacturing process.
  • Support new program requirements related to manufacturing (ie preventative maintenance) and Quality function
  • Assist in the design, and documentation of new processing equipment
  • Assist in the implementation of new equipment (ie design buyoff, start-up, spare parts, documentation)
  • Lead or support cycle time reductions, 5S implementation, Mistake Proofing strategies.
  • Assist or lead in the completion of corrective actions resulting from internal or customer related issues.
  • Maintain or improve process stability/capability (e.g. product dimensional performance)
  • Domestic and/or International Travel ~30% overnight, ~10% day only supplier visits.

 

 

Qualifications

  • 5 years welding technician experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience creating welding programs for Fanuc/ABB/OTC robotic systems (required)
  • Previous experience setting up and troubleshooting automated welding applications and performing preventive maintenance on weld fixtures, weld cells, and auxiliary equipment (required)
  • Proficiency with interpreting part prints (required)
  • The ability to adjust parameters for Mig schedules (required)
  • Completion of one of the following training classes: Fanuc, ABB, or OTC (required)
  • Fanuc Arc Mate and/or material handling programming experience (preferred)
  • ABB Arc Ware and/or material handling programming experience (preferred)
  • Independent/coordinated robotic motion control experience (preferred)
